Air ducts and vents must need to be cleaned and maintained regularly. Ignoring simple duties like changing your filter once a month might allow contaminants to enter your home’s ventilation system. If your air ducts aren’t cleaned, viruses, germs, and fungus may infiltrate them and get suspended in your interior air.
Still curious about doing it yourself? Air duct cleaning is surprisingly complicated, but
Here are some tips from our professionals:
Examine the vents
Check inside a vent cover for filth, dust, or anything else you don’t want.
Examine the registers of return.
Check for dust accumulation in the return air registers. Take extra care if the records are covered with a thick coating.
Discard the filter
Remove the air filter and inspect it. It’s time to replace your air filter if it’s unclean and coated with dust.
Examine the furnace
Dust the blower fan, motor, and furnace controls by opening the chamber.
Inspect the evaporator coil.
Examine the condenser coil in the air conditioner. If dust is on it or the housing walls, your air filter isn’t operating.
Turn off the electricity.
Turn off the electricity to your heating and cooling systems. Note that the thermostat does not turn off the unit; you must turn off the electricity at the breaker panel or the furnace’s power switch.
Clean the air duct covers by removing them.
Remove the air duct covers and clean the grates with a brush. Make sure you’re thorough. Clean up the ductwork with a vacuum.
Clean the vents in the ceiling.
Finally, clean the ceiling vents. To remove the dust, use a vacuum cleaner or a broom.
